Martha Jungwirth

*1940   lives and works in Vienna and Neumarkt an der Raab

Jungwirth trained as a typesetter at a book printing cooperative. Studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna under Otto Prutscher and Karl Witzmann from 1915. Grand Austrian State Prize for painting in 1935. Between 1939 and 1944 he painted completed sections of the Reichsautobahn under contract to the inspector general Fritz Todt, for a planned travelling exhibition. He captured the visual nature of figuration in both his oil paintings and watercolours.
